Open Monographs

At the moment, monographs are not covered by NCN's Open Access Policy and there is no obligation to publish them in this form. This refers to chapters as well as monographs as a whole and peer-reviewed collected works.

cOAlition S currently applies only to peer-reviewed scholarly articles. cOAlition S strongly encourages, but does not currently require, that research data and other research outputs are made as open as possible and as closed as necessary. It is understood that the timeline to achieve Open Access for monographs and book chapters will be longer and requires a separate and due process.

Academic books should be published open access under a Creative Commons licence.

Any embargo periods on academic books should be as short as possible and never exceed 12 months.

Authors or their institutions should retain sufficient intellectual property rights to make their academic books available OA and to allow for re-use.
